This Is Me

Thoughts, Cryptic Generalities

There are some places that are just special to you for completely personal reasons. Sure, you can say that a monument or geographic area is important to a group of people and have importance in some way. What about the place, or object is special to you because of the memory it represents?

This post when I started writing the title and the introduction paragraph became clear that I really wanted to talk about personal history. The history of our lives from the time we enter this world and how our history effects us, mainly in regards to the special moments in our lives. A place or an object is just that, a place or object until something significant happens in ones life to add meaning to that place and object. I’m currently sitting in a city that has so much greater meaning than the buildings, streets, and millions of people that inhabit it. This city represents a feeling and a person that I cherish. It represents beautiful moments in my life and for that it is much more than the bricks and mortar that shape it.

I love these things. I love when I can look at something or hear the name of a place and just am instantly taken back to a feeling where I was having some of the most wonderful times of my life. There’s something magic in that. It makes me grateful for those moments but more importantly grateful for amazing experiences in my life. The only unfortunate part is I tend to want more of these experiences. So not being near or in physical contact with these generic objects makes me nostalgic and miss the things that they represent and what being near them means to me.

I’m finishing this post in another city that has quite a bit of meaning to me as well, although this place is still growing on me. At the moment, I’m somewhat lost for thoughts.

Possibilities seem endless and living without the concept of consequence can be a somewhat dangerous business. It has, however, brought some amazing things into my life and some amazing moments in my life that I wouldn’t trade for the world and brought me the cities and objects and names that have created lasting memories for me.

I’m cherishing the memories. Loving the great moments. Hoping that I’ve lived, loved completely with my heart, and done the best I can for those who have loved me.

General Things

Sometimes there isn’t a specific topic to write about or enough content to really put into a post but the need to post something is there. So here is a post about some general things that are going on along with some updates about my major interests.

Although the importance of this may vary depending on who you are what your interests are, a new expansion for World of Warcraft was announced this past week during Blizzcon 2009. If this is your first time visiting, you may find out throughout my posts on this site, I'm a rather big World of Warcraft fan. The expansion is called World of Warcraft Cataclysm.

This new expansion brings the World of Warcraft universe back to the original lands of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms with a lava and fire facelift. Along with the numerous features this new expansion (like the expansions before it) introduces two new races, the Goblins and the Worgen; Goblins for the Horde, Worgen for the Alliance. Without going into too much personal detail, I must say I do have an initial affinity for the Goblins. These little green guys are the gangsters of the Warcraft universe. I kind of find myself thinking these guys will be anything but boring to play. The Worgen also have their unique traits, which are also just as attractive to play. With werewolf type tendencies, the cosmetic and game play mechanics of this new race are fairly intriguing. While not in combat the Worgen revert to their human state, however, the moment they enter combat they turn into werewolf like creatures. I guess this would be an attractive feature for those who are into the werewolf lore, namely, me.

If you’re a Blizzard Entertainment fan, definitely check out the updates that came out of Blizzcon 2009. My focus was mostly on the World of Warcraft franchise as well as the Diablo franchise that both got development updates at this years Blizzcon.

This season of the HBO Series True Blood only has a few episodes left of its second season and after an incredible season (from this writers point of view) the next few episodes surely should not disappoint. If you haven’t checked out True Blood, or have not heard of the series, I highly recommend you check out the first and second seasons of this series. Briefly, this series is based on an extremely unique premise; the connection to the characters is strong being based in a small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, and leaves you literally hanging in excited annoyance for the next episode. This series has personally grabbed me from the first episode and has kept pulling me in ever since. So check out True Blood on the HBO website and if it catches you the right way I highly recommend checking it out.

The last thing I can really think of to write about at this moment is the new version of Mac OS X was released on Friday, August 28. If you’re a Mac owner I would definitely recommend picking this up as well. Smaller footprint and faster processes, although there are not many visible feature upgrades, the improvements under the hood make this a great upgrade for just about any Intel based Mac. At you can’t complain about the price point sitting around $35 depending what country you live in. My new version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard is on its way.

These are just a few general things that are going on at the moment that I find particularly interesting. Be sure to contact me if you found anything in this post particularly interesting or you want to thank me for turning you onto an amazing HBO series. Until next time.

Breaking Through the Job Market

Recent grads and experienced people alike have been feeling the pains of the economy. Finding a job is tougher than ever. This is a brief overview of an experience trying to navigate the job market in a troubled economy.

Moving ahead in the world is nothing like it was planned to be. Get a good education and work hard and maybe one day you’ll be rewarded for your efforts. This is not the mantra of the real world. You need to have the skills and know the people and even then that is sometimes not enough. As much as people want to help you out, there is only so much work and so much need for the work that you do.

So is the dream job out there? There really is not one surefire answer to that question really. The thing about a career is you want to build something that to you will last a lifetime and you will look back on each day and forever be grateful for. These opportunities are few and far between and much of what you look for is always just slightly out of reach. With the economy the way it is and the dead heat of summer there just is not much hiring happening out there in the corporate world. There is a constant stream of being pointed to the same resource that you have already squeezed the life from, sort–to–speak. The same story that financially people are just not doing well, even to a point where they are letting people go in hopes of recovering their businesses.

For recent grads such as myself this is certainly a wake up call. Experienced talent has flooded the market and new grads are now right in the thick of it. How can a new grad compete with someone who has already proven his or her worth and been allowed to go through the process of being a fresh hire to an experienced professional. At this point one can only hope that the job market breaks open again or an opportunity comes along that just takes off. In reality, there is no real way that this kind of economy can sustain itself, at some point things need to turn around and start moving away from the grinding halt that this current job market has currently undergone.

So, good luck to all those job hunters out there and especially to you recent grads. Keep the hope alive and hopefully all of your talents and skills can be recognized as I hope mine soon will be.
